Notary News & Notes: June 2007

Ongoing Issues with edocs: It is imperative that you access, print and QC your edocs pkg as soon as you can after being advised that they were sent to you.  This avoids last minute situations whereby you find: your email address rejected the loan pkg for size or as unsafe attachment or went to your junk mail; you are unable to open the link or attachment;  you are unable to print the pkg without cutoff pages, hieroglyphics, etc. ; or your printer capability is not compatible with that type print font/formatting. Please respond to our email that you successfully printed the loan pkg or call us. Always read the email message body to assure that you don’t miss critical instructions. Make sure you print out all attachments!  Default to legal paper unless we advise you otherwise. Do not advise the borrower that you are delaying the appt because of printing until you have notified SCI for approval; we may need to secure a different agent who can print the pkg and get to closing on time.  Never advise the borrower that since it’s already late that you can just sign “early in the morning.”  Backdating is a felony offense. Again, we have to know that you printed successfully. A quick email or call is all we need.

New client-MIS: MIS out of Florida has begun using our services. Their loans are mostly Countrywide and very standard. We have to make sure we service this new client perfectly. If we don’t, someone else will. We will require faxbacks on every single loan of theirs.…no exceptions. If you are unable or unwilling to do the faxback, please simply do not accept the order.

SB764: As you all know, Senator Hagan withdrew the bill for this year. More than likely, it will be tweaked and we’ll see it again next year. Signing Carolina will stay on top of this and pass along any information we feel you need to know. If any of you hear anything, please let us know. In the meantime, make sure you are not going ‘too far into the weeds’ on your closings. Remember your role is to ID the brwr’s, have the doc’s signed and notarized. That’s it. You are not there to offer explanations. The State Bar would like nothing more than to catch a few of you doing what they consider the ‘the unauthorized practice of law”. A few examples of this would help them pass the next SB764.

Overloading schedules: At month end, we are seeing agents taking on way too much work resulting in very sloppy work being sent back. Remember when errors occur, we all pay the price. This past month end was about the worst we’ve seen in a long time. Agents who are error free, do the faxbacks and are low maintenance will be first on our list to call.

The amount of work received from us really is up to you based on the quality of work produced.

As always, call us if you have questions.
