Notary News & Notes: August 2007

Please take note of the following.
- Use your camera phone to get a copy of ID. Ever gone to a closing and borrower forgot to have a copy made of their ID and of course, they have no printer? Here’s an idea that may help. If you have a camera phone, take a picture of the ID with your phone and email that picture to yourself, then print it out. Most cell phones now have cams on them.
- Ever printed an email package, only for the closing to be cancelled? This is one of those irritating things about this business. We’ve all been there and had it happen at one time or another. Unfortunately, it’s one of those things that cannot be helped and must be chalked up to a cost of doing business. We have been paying enormous fee’s to agents ($25) even though the actual expense is under $6 for ink and toner. Effective in July, we are no longer able to pay any print fee’s. Title companies and lenders consider this ‘cost of doing business’ and we cannot continue to absorb it. If anyone has an issue with this and does not wish to do edocs anymore as a result, please let us know so we can note it on your profile. Remember, edoc fees will not be paid for canceled closings.
- POA’s and AIF’s (Power of Attorney and Attorney in Fact). As a reminder, when a POA is being used, the signer must sign verbatim.
